Business and Investor Visas in Houston
Persons wishing to enter the U.S. temporarily for business purposes may apply for a Business Visitor Visa, called a B-1. This visa would cover traveling to the U.S. to consult with business associates. It also covers traveling to another country to attend a convention related to business, science, education, or some other profession. They may also be issued to allow individuals to settle an estate, negotiate a contract, or perform some other business-related matter.
Applicants must meet specific requirements to qualify for a visitor visa under U.S. immigration law. Visa applications are now under greater scrutiny, much more so than in the past. Visitors wishing to obtain one should apply well in advance with the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in their country.
Applicants must show certain proof that their intention is to visit the U.S., including:
- Giving the specific purpose of their trip
- Showing that they have a plan to stay in the U.S. for a limited and specific time only
- Revealing that they have enough funds to cover their expenses
- Proof of a residence outside of the U.S.
- Evidence of other ties that will ensure that they return to their home once their business in the U.S. is completed
Investor Visas
The E-2 Visa for Investors is a non-immigrant visa for investors from countries that have investment, commerce, or navigation treaties with the U.S. To qualify for this type of visa, investors must make a substantial investment in a U.S. company and travel to the U.S. to direct and/or develop the business operations of the company as an executive, supervisor, or a person with specialized skills. The investment is generally $25,000 or more and the investor must show means of support independent of the business enterprise. E-2 visas are generally issued for a two-year period and are renewable as long as the business continues to be actively engaged in business services or trade.
